At Barilla, we’ve been making pasta since 1877, when Pietro Barilla established a modest pasta shop in Parma, Italy. Today, Barilla is the world leader in pasta production, manufacturing over 4,000 tons every day. Here in America, we mill our own wheat and have the country’s largest pasta factory in Ames, Iowa, and a second facility in Avon, New York.

With over 130 years of experience, we have learned a thing or two about pasta. One of the most important lessons is the proper way to cook pasta so the high-quality ingredients and careful preparation can result in delicious al dente meal. Al dente literally means to the tooth in reference to the desired texture of cooked pasta, which should be soft, but still slightly firm at its core.
